Special Membership Programs
In order to truly reflect the diverse face of America,GSNA, Inc. is developing programs to meet the needs of all girls.

Hispanic Troops
GSNA, Inc. recognizes the increase in our community's Hispanic population and strives to offer Girl Scout programming to these girls. We have organized troops for Hispanic girls and adults in Decatur, Athens, Albertville, and are working in many other areas of our council to organize more. Our Outreach Specialist is bilingual, meeting with parents and girls who do not speak English and translating leadership training for adults who need assistance. We also have available basic Girl Scout materials in Spanish.

Collaboration with HeadStart Agencies
"Daisy Girl Scouts – A HeadStart on Literacy" is a six-session program presented in the springto girls in HeadStart programs who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall. The program introduces Girl Scouting to the girl, while supporting HeadStart's goal of improving literacy. Girls learn that reading can be fun as they also learn about plants and nutrition. The program, expanded in 2001 from 4 to 10 counties, is presented in HeadStart classrooms in Madison, Jackson, DeKalb, Marshall, Morgan, Limestone, Cullman, Lawrence, Colbert, and Franklin Counties.

Low-Income Area Outreach
Outreach programs in low-income areas are a priority to GSNA, Inc. If girls are not in troops organized through their school, church, or elsewhere in the community, we will organize a troop close by in a public housing or other low-income area so that transportation is not a problem. Troops may be year-round troops lead by volunteers or short-term troops lead by a paid staff presenter. Girls in outreach troops/groups, like all Girl Scouts, build skills for success in the real world. Girls can work together to discover the fun, friendship, leadership, and character within themselves.
